Buy and sell safely
Most people on Sellit are honest. These habits keep you safe from the few who are not.
Meet in person, in a public place
- Meet in a busy public place in daylight, such as a mall or a petrol station.
- For expensive items, bring someone with you.
- Tell a friend or family member where you are going.
Pay only when you have the item
- Never pay a deposit or an advance to hold an item you have not seen.
- Sellers: hand over the item only when the money is really in your account. Screenshots of transfers can be fake.
- Be careful with cheques. Check a manager's cheque with the bank that issued it before you hand anything over.
- A price that is far too low is a warning sign.
Buying a car
- Check the registration card (Mulkiya) and make sure the seller's name matches their ID.
- Take a test drive and have the car inspected at an approved testing centre.
- Ask about loans, unpaid fines and accident history, and transfer ownership through the official channels.
Keep your details private
- Never share one-time codes (OTP), card details, passwords or your UAE PASS login.
- Sellit will never ask for your password or a code by message, phone or WhatsApp.
- Do not send a copy of your Emirates ID or passport to someone you do not know.
Watch out for links
- Keep the conversation in Sellit messages where you can.
- Do not open payment or delivery links from people you do not know. Fake courier and 'receive your money' pages are a common trick.
Something wrong?
- Use the Report button on the ad or in the conversation. We check every report.
- If you have lost money, contact the police in your emirate. In an emergency, call 999.
